Game Report – Yet so close, Yet so far – Boom Boom go down swinging

With only 3 days remaining until game day and exams looming, Boom Boom did not have a starting line -up.   A secretive meeting was held at the Boom Boom headquarters which involved a lot of chocolate cake, notably however,  the captain of the Green Machine Jerry Jehangir Ahmed was also present, indication that he once again would play for his home team.

With players needed left right and centre, thought was even given to international intervention, as making a call to  “Ahsan Sheikh n  Bake Pervaiz” was also considered, one look at Boom Boom’s budget and that idea was canned,  much like Julia Gillard, Boom Boom could not afford anymore reckless spending.

Whilst one international member of the Boom Boom fraternity was unable to make it, “Fahad Doc Sheikh” currently on his Australian tour, was included and was awarded his first Boom Boom cap. Not sure of his own physical fitness and suffering from jet lag, Fahad was ready to take one for the team.   Some might say he was not really given a choice.

Regardless of the excitement of Boom Boom’s first international player, 3 further players were still needed, much like the bottom 3 facing elimination on masterchef, Boom Boom ended the meeting  in limbo.

Game day was wet and windy and without fail, most of the team were late, much embarrassment was caused to the fans that were in attendance for the first time.    “Moe Ejazz Butt Satti” and “Aazim C++ Ibrahim” opened the innings against the fierce bowling attack of the Dickson Indoor Kings, who with their fluro pink shirts looked like they belonged more at Kings Cross in Sydney than on a cricket field.

25 runs were scored in the first four overs and Boom Boom were off to a slow, yet steady start.   Half the team was still missing and things were not looking good.  One fan was even heard screaming on the telephone to a certain Boom Boom member “Where the !@##$% are you?” – Surely, but steadily most of them turned up with all blaming the traffic.  Still glowing from his performance the previous week and sporting a brand new knee,  Justin George from Mastershef  Theolidigis and Jazz Jazzy B Kang who by this stage had forgiven the new trainee at KFC scored a solid 36 runs in their allotted 4 overs.  In fact, Jazz was quite impressed with the trainee’s service at KFC even ordered a second sweet chili twister. Were Boom Boom steadying the ship?

In a true test of his captaincy, a crucial decision was then made, perhaps, the turning point,  as Hassan Swing Ehsan had finally turned up after cursing, the following, in no particular order:

  • his boss;
  • his car;
  • the rain;  and
  • the traffic

With the idea of keeping the hitters towards the end, Hassan suggested that he be paired up with Fahad Doc Sheikh. That idea and proposition at the time seemed like a great one and Hassan was backed by his captain. Things changed very quickly and that’s all that it remained, a good idea.  Poor communication, run outs and both being bowled on separate occasions, Hassan and Fahad could  only manage a score of -1 in their 4 overs, yes you read that correctly, only 1 – Panic?   Enter Jerry Jehangir Ahmed.

With a cool head, Jerry guided Boom Boom to a competitive 96 runs, with some boundaries clearing the fence by a long, long way. –  Could Boom Boom bowl well enough to hold out the top ranked Dickson Indoor Kings?

The aim was two quick wickets in the first over, and that’s exactly what happened, Moe was at his best with a stumping from the first ball and then two balls later Hassan bowled the batsman to have the opposition finishing with -5 after the first over.  Could Hassan be forgiven for his batting display?

Boom Boom managed to win the first set of 4 overs, restricting the opposition to only 17 runs with Fahad bowling a very tight last over,  from then on however, much like a war criminal from Yugoslavia the match seemed to slip away.

The Batsman were simply too good against a second string Boom Boom bowling line up.  There were however many positives, such as Fahad’s crucial catch allowing Boom Boom to also  win the last 4 overs and secure points 2 additional points.  Certainly, a moment for the KFC classic catches section, to vote for Fahad’s catch simply text “doc” to “1300 Boom Boom”. The winner will be announced at the end of the season.    Boom Boom however, were a few overs and a few players short.

Moe thanked the players who had agreed to play at the very last minute, their help no doubt assisting in Boom Boom at least attaining a few points.

Boom Boom still remain second on the ladder, which can be accessed at http://www.niccweb.com/html/ladders/Ladder%20ReportPage7.html

The team  hired a new photographer for the game, however are having difficulty obtaining the wonderfully taken shots, Boom Boom management have contacted Julian Assange and now play the waiting game.

Boom Boom next week play the untested Bang Bros 2.  Bang Bros 2  have been climbing the national indoor cricket ladder very quickly, Boom Boom will be looking forward to playing a full strength team and getting back to what they are good at, as Charlie Sheen would say WINNING!
